Charles Hague-Jones previews the Meadowmen’s midweek trip to Shawbury

@chaguejones

Our fifth game of the 2020/21 league campaign is a midweek trip to Shawbury’s Ludlow Stadium. The Meadowmen will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 league defeat at the hands of Bilston Town at the Crown Meadow on Saturday. The game was an even contest with away manager Dean Gill saying that Ward’s side were the best they’ve came up against this season.

So far, Shawbury United have had a solid start to the season. They currently sit fourth in the table, winning 4 and losing just two games, having played 6. Having scored 16 goals they’ve proved they know where the net is but the 11 goals conceded could suggest that their heads could drop if they concede first.

Unlike the Meadowmen, Shawbury were knocked out of the FA Vase early on meaning they have had more planning and preparation in the league, which shows with their impressive start to the campaign.

League- WLWWWL

Tuesday’s hosts come into the game after suffering defeat against Littleton on the weekend. They managed to score first but ended up losing 3-1. Both sides will be hungry for the three points to boost their morale in the league, having finishing the postponed 2019/20 season 13th and 15th. Both sides have entered this campaign with high expectations to be near the top at the end of the season.

One to watch

Shawbury’s Reiss Morgan Corfield beats ex-Bridgnorth midfielder, James Chetter, to my one to watch. The striker has scored 6 goals in just 5 appearances this season so far and has the second most goals in the league so far. The Meadowmen will be busy trying to keep the electric striker out on Tuesday as he has a very keen eye for goal.

Summary

Both sides will be looking to bounce back from their defeats on the weekend. Midweek games will prove just as important as the ones on the weekends throughout the season, if teams manage to pick up points in midweek they can start to creep up the table with games in hand, a result for either team would be massive.
