Match Preview- Pershore Town 88 v AFC Bridgnorth

Charles Hague-Jones previews the Meadowmen’s FA Vase second qualifying round game as they travel to Pershore.

7 October 2020

@chaguejones

Our second encounter in the FA Vase sees us on the road again, this time to Pershore Town 88. Saturday’s hosts are WMRL rivals and we will meet again at least two more times this season, both sides will be looking to start a cup run to turn some attention away from the league although both sides will most likely be prioritising the division.

So far, the Plums managed to overcome St Martins, winning 4-1 away in Oswestry. As for the Meadowmen, they were involved in a thrilling encounter with Wednesfield at Crown Meadow to come from 3-1 down to level the game in the 90th minute and send the match to penalties, where their cool-heads prevailed and earned their spot in this round.

The Meadowmen’s best finish in the FA Vase was the second round and they were last beyond the second qualifying round in 2015/16. Pershore’s best ever finish in the Vase was round 3 but haven’t been past the second qualifier since 2000/01.

The Plums are begging for some time away in the league to focus on a cup run. They currently sit 12th in the WMRL Premier on 2 points, a position and point above AFC Bridgnorth.

They have been involved in a 2-2 draw and a 5-5 draw so prepare for goals on Saturday, it would be surprising if it’s not an entertaining game from start to finish.

One to watch

Pershore Town’s Elliott Lees. A playmaker who knows how to find the defence-splitting pass that can open a game up. Was a main star in their 4-1 win in the first qualifying round and his name is very similar to Elliott Lee so it’ll be a battle between those two on Saturday.

Summary

Both sides will be looking to be looking to go on a decent cup run because of the endless list of positives that they bring. It should be a solid contest and both the sides will be up for it. After suffering a close 4-1 defeat away at Wednesfield in the league last time out, Ward will be readying his side to come home with their ticket into the next round.

Live updates of the game will be available on Twitter @AFCBridgnorth during Saturday’s cup game.

Updated COVID-19 guidelines are also found on the clubs’ social media pages and websites. Please enjoy the game and stay safe.
