AFC Bridgnorth Football Club has tonight (Wednesday) parted company with First Team Manager, Graham Ward.
– Ward has served as First Team Manager since May 2020.
– AFC Bridgnorth progressed to the first round proper of the FA Vase for the first time since 2015/16 with Ward as manager.
– The board are discussing people to assume interim first team responsibilities.
Ward, appointed Bridgnorth manager in May 2020, brought in players of superb stature and pedigree along with one of the best backroom staff setups in the league at this level. His energy around the club was bright and players (and fans) were excited for the campaign ahead, after a solid pre-season to prepare for the new year of football.
However, domestic results in the current campaign have placed the club lower than the short term ambitions and the board reluctantly feels that a change of leadership, while admittedly painful, is necessary in the club’s greatest interest.
Chairman Mark Wheale said: “It is regret that we announce the resignation of Ward for personal reasons. We would like to put on record all of our thanks to Graham for all of his hard work and we want to wish him all the best for the future.”
The board will now begin the recruitment process and will make no further comment until that process is completed.
